If you’re a business owner, you have a duty to look after your staff and ensure that they’re as content as possible, and once you’re sure that basic working conditions exceed standards, you should then start looking to go the extra mile.

Every day there are reports in the newspapers which once again stress the importance of healthy eating, so why not integrate healthy eating into the working week?

One fantastic way of showing your staff just how much you care is by providing them with free fruit. Placing a bowl full of fresh fruit in your staff room is really affordable and will be well received by your staff.

Ensuring that your staff kitchen is equipped with a microwave and health grill is also a good idea, as staff can bring in their own healthy lunch rather than having to buy an unhealthy and expensive sandwich from the local shop.

Making sure that there’s always a fresh supply of filtered water is another workplace essential. Water coolers can be hired and purchased affordably nowadays.

Everyone needs a treat every now and again though- especially on a Friday afternoon- and you can treat your staff by hiring out one of the many great drinks machines which are currently available.

Your mother will give you a thousand reasons to keep away from sweets. And there’s little doubt that more than half of them are accurate. It has been proven time and time again that sweets are the root cause of oral problems. Chewing on them for an extended period of time is likely to bring about acidity in the mouth due to the high percentage of carbohydrates in these hard boiled treats. The next time that you are on the receiving end of her censures over your sugar tooth, give her a handful of retro sweets.

They are good for your stomach as well as your teeth. On your visit to the local sweet shop, head over to the retro sweets counter. Over here, you will find delicious squares and circles of sugary goodness. Rhubarb and custards, jelly beans, bon bons, chocolate raisins, chocolate éclairs, Turkish delights, cola bottles are delights for not just the tongue but also bring happy tingles to your nostalgia taste bud.

Another way to neutralize the negative effects that these delicious treats have on your tummy is to brush your teeth or at least carry out a thorough gargle after popping them in to your mouth. Irrespective of age, job title and other parameters, none of us can resist a sugar treat and thus, you are well- advised to stand firm in your desire for these wholesome goodies.

If you are still feeling queasy about eating these goodies, there is another option at hand, in other words, sugarless ones like liquorice wood, sugar free cinnamon balls, strawberry blackcurrant, cherry sweets, chocolate limes etc. There is no cut down on the sugariness factor and they can satisfy your sugar craving completely.

If you haven’t exercised for awhile and wish to start back at the gym then the best thing is to take it slowly. Rushing to do 20 hours in the first week will only cause you to loose momentum and your more likely to quite rather then carry on long term. Small amounts of exercise on a regular basis is key – at the gym if you decide to start using the treadmill then rather than try and run 2 miles in on hit start of slowly. Do 10 mins of running followed by some weights to help tone the muscles and then perhaps some more cardio exercise.

After the exhausting child birth experience many mums feel drained and tired. Exercise is the last thing on there mind. But sometimes it’s needed to bring the energy levels back up and help relax the body. Small amounts of exercise will also help bring your body back into shape and improve your fitness helping you feel better all around.

This doesn’t need to be a strenuous gym work out. To start with it’s advised to start with small bits. Walking for about 15mins for example is a excellent start. Things like the postnatal exercises will help strengthen the pelvic muscles.

Eating well during any stage of your life is key to how you’ll feel. It’s a given fact that if someone eats fatty foods, snacks on foods with high fat and sugar content then they are more likely to feel sluggish and lethargic. This is a circle where if they feel like this then they are less likely to feel the urge to exercise and as a result they will start putting on the pounds. Someone on the other hand who eats healthy foods including fruit and vegetables, will have more energy and as a result will be more likely to carry out a more active routine helping keep the weight steady.

There are many diets around which claim to help loose weight fast – some of these cut out vital food groups which the body needs and is recommended by health professionals. An example is the protein diet which introduces shakes and soups to the diet in replacement of meals – these cut out carbs totally and as such only specified foods even specific vegetables and in many cases this means no fruit at all. As the diet provides all the meals in the form of milkshakes, soups, snack bar etc it is expensive to maintain. However short term yes people do claim to have lost weight but the key question is will they be able to maintain it when they come off the diet.

Health professionals advise that each of our meals should include carbs, proteins, milk/diary products and fruit and vegetables. Out of this the biggest portion should be of the vegetables and carbs such as pasta, breads and rices. The sugary foods are at a minimal and form the smallest portion of the meal. This will allow the body to get all the correct vitamins and minerals needed to maintain a healthy body. With this portions size must be considered, larger portions mean more calories and generally it will be more then what the body needs – the portion needs to be a reasonable amount as long term this determines the amount of calories being consumed and will effect weight loss.

The breakup diet is always one of the quickest and most effective. When you break up with your significant other you undoubtedly go through different phases. The first will be shock, the second will be desperation, the third will be anger, the fourth will be disappointment, the fifth will be ignorance and the sixth will be realisation. Throughout these phases you will not be hungry. My friend has just broken up with her boyfriend and has lost three pounds in the past three days because she had a muller yogurt all day yesterday and a banana the day before and they had to be force fed to her. This is not fun though and you revert to comfort eating afterwards.

Has anyone ever seen Mel B’s Totally Fit DVD? I tried it out a while ago and it almost killed me, honestly I was lying on the floor of my living room crying because I am not totally fit.. apparently. This is the most hardcore workout DVD I have ever done because there is no mix-up of technique, it is seriously minutes and minutes working on the same area of your body. I can cope when you do an all over body workout, hitting different areas for a small amount of time and then moving on to the next, your aerobic ability still gets tested and you are able to carry on. With Mel I was crumpled up in a heap wondering why five minutes of sit-ups are not possible. It turns out everyone else I got to do the DVD felt the same and it went back on the shelf. Mel, you are a machine and I salute you, just don’t make me cry again!
